The Wedding Timeline | The First Look and Romantic Portraits

If you've never heard of a First Look before, the simple answer is that it's when the groom see's the bride before the ceremony and they have a few moments to themselves to let it sink in that they're about to get married. It's been seen as non-traditional but it really is becoming a new tradition! The number one reason I recommend having a first look is because it allows for the couple to have intimate time with each other.

Gear For Wedding Days

Today I thought I'd share a "What's In My Bag" type post with you guys! When I was first getting started I didn't know what all I would need to photograph a wedding. I researched soft boxes, flashes, tripods, lenses, and a ton of different camera bodies. Ultimately I settled on Nikon and got my very first camera: the D3200. I love that thing, LOVED it. But as I was doing my research I knew that if I wanted to grow with any type of photography career, especially weddings, that I'd need to buy a full frame body and invest in prime lenses.

My Photography Bucket List

I've never been out of the country. If I'm being totally honest, I don't even have my passport yet. I don't really know what I'm waiting for either. I mean, I know I want to travel and take photographs around the world. Not just for weddings but for pure joy! I love all different types of photography because it's capturing all of what this world has to offer.

The Wedding Timeline | Getting Ready and Bridal Prep

Originally, I was going to write one big post for this topic but I feel like it will be an easier read if I break it down. That being said, today I want to talk about the wedding timeline! If you are a newly engaged bride this series is for you. There are a lot of details that go into planning a wedding and although it's fun, it can also be very overwhelming. I want to help take a little bit of that off of your plate!

Easter Weekend Wrap Up

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend celebrating Easter with family and friends! My parents, brother, nephew, and I went to Charlotte to have Easter with the rest of my family. It was a last minute decision but so worth it to spend time with the people you love. Good food, fun games, big laughs.. what's better than that? This isn't a long post but I wanted to post a few photos of all of the fun we had.

February Snapshot, March Goals, and the March Snapshot

Happy Friday friends! The last two weeks have been a little bit of a whirlwind. I've been to Charlotte twice for three birthdays, family pictures, hanging with co-workers, and just having tons of fun! I decided to make this a combo post because throughout the month of February and beginning of March I was revamping my website so I never blogged the February Snapshot or March goals. So all of that will be wrapped into this post!

Weekend Wrap Up

Happy Monday friends! Now that my website is done I feel like I can finally focus on blogging again. This weekend I decided to go to Charlotte. One of my little cousins was having a birthday party and my older cousin asked if I could take a few family photos for them. I also was able to spend some time with a few of my old co-workers which was so much fun!

The New & Improved JAP Website!

It’s LIVE!! My new website has been live for a few days and I’ve gotten such great feedback on it! Thank you!! It’s been a long time coming and after over a month of back and forth design ideas, I’m finally really happy with this one. I didn’t hire a designer or a branding specialist to help me simply because I love the challenge of learning these pieces myself. Is it perfect? No. But it’s certainly a design that I can keep for a long time and maybe make a few small changes here and there if need be. But I’m loving it right now and I’m so proud of myself!

Seven Ways To Use Your Engagement Photos

I've shared why I love engagement sessions in the past but I love talking about them because I think they're important! They give you a chance to get to know your photographer before the big day arrives and allows you to get comfortable with being in front of the camera. Not to mention, it can be a nice break from wedding planning! Once your receive your images from your session you can do all sorts of fun things with them.

Spring Color Palette Inspiration

Who doesn't love a good wedding color palette, right?! It may seem early but Spring will be here before we know it and if you're a bride getting married and are still trying to think of a fun color palette then this post is for you! A palette like this will give your images a range of contrast and have your wedding album popping full of color. It's one of my favorite palettes because it can be really diverse! You can have bridesmaids in navy or coral dresses, groomsmen in navy or grey suits, the possibilities are endless.

The Nifty Fifty

When I first started in photography I didn't really have a clue what type of lenses I wanted to use. I had been use to using black and white film for class and my professors never stressed the difference your lens could make. After I started following a few wedding photographers I couldn't understand how they're couples seemed to really pop off of the backgrounds. I knew about depth of field but my images never looked like that. I stumbled upon the answer one day and have never looked back!

February Goals

It's February! Can you believe it? Actually, I can...I kind of feel like January took a long time to end so now I'm sure February is going to feel like it's flying by. All that really means is that I need to work faster this month on my goals :) My personal goals are probably going to stay pretty consistent because I'm trying to get into a routine so forgive me the repetition. Business goals are a little different but they piggy back off of what I had for January.
